I Miss My Kid: Tips on Managing Parents’ Separation Anxiety

We don’t often talk about it, but parents can get separation anxiety, too!

Your kid’s first day at Montessori preschool in Manassas, Virginia is a monumental event, and it’s not always easy for parents to accept. Thus, Maple Lawn Montessori of Manassas would like to offer a few suggestions to ease separation anxiety in parents.

  • Develop a special ‘goodbye’ ritual.

A ritual can help both you and your child feel more confident and comfortable. Repeat the same thing, in the same order, every day!
  • Acknowledge your feelings and honor them.

Don’t be embarrassed by what you feel. It’s a parent’s job to be there for their child. It’s the way nature has designed it. Thus, it’s normal for you to be feeling a little sad.
  • Manage your feelings calmly.

Kids pick up on emotions really quickly. Seeing you upset might push them to feel worried, so avoid getting too emotional.
  • Finally, start a hobby!

Most parents have to give up hobbies to take care of children when their young, but once they are old enough for Manassas childcare, the opportunity to pick up where they left off opens. Get back on track and start doing what you love to do again.
